BROWN GRAND THEATRE
Concordians with an appreciation for their heritage restored the
Brown Grand Theatre. The $500,000 project was completed in 1980
to this building, once the finest theater between Kansas City and
Denver. Since the restoration, thousands of visitors have toured the
theater and many more thousands have taken advantage of the
many performances held there each year. The theater may be
toured daily with a $2.00 suggested donation. (785-243-2553)
FRANK CARLSON LIBRARY
Home to the many remembrances of Sen. Frank Carlson. Senator Carlson, from Concordia, served
Kansas as U.S. Senator, State Representative, and Governor. Tours are available. (785-243-2250)
NATIONAL ORPHAN TRAIN COMPLEX, INC.
In March of 2003, Concordia was named as the new home of the Orphan Train Heritage Society of
America, Inc. (OTHSA). In May of 2004, the Union Pacific Depot was placed on the National Register of
Historic Places, and restoration to the depot began. The museum houses Orphan Train artifacts. Founded
in 1986 by Mary Ellen Johnson, OTHSA had been collecting information about the Orphan Train Era and
the stories of the children who rode the trains.
National Orphan Train Complex, Inc. (NOTC), which opened to the public on
September 15, 2007. The mission of the National Orphan Train Complex is
to collect, preserve, interpret, and disseminate knowledge about the orphan
trains, the children and agents who rode them, and local railroad history.
At the end of 2007, the two organizations merged. The museum’s collections, exhibitions, programming
and research will engage riders, researchers, and the general public and create an awareness of the

- CLOUD COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM
Housed in this former Carnegie Library of native
limestone, the museum displays thousands of items of
Cloud County History. In the museum addition hangs a
WWI vintage bi-winged airplane, as well as a working
hand-pump well, antique cars, trucks, tractors, and farm
machinery. Also found there is a wooden frame of a
historical barn. Open to visitors Tuesday through
Saturday, 1:00-5:00 p.m. A $1.00 donation is

- NAZARETH CONVENT
The Sisters of St. Joseph have lived and worked in Concordia and
elsewhere for most of our history. Built at the turn of the century, much of
the building has been restored to its original splendor with beautiful stained
glass, antiques and chapel. Tours of the building are available by
appointment 2:00-4:00 p.m., M-F. (785-243-2113)

Wanda Morgan generously donated money to build the
Morgan Dowell Research Center.
- The research center sits adjacent to the Orphan Train
Rider Museum, and is available for genealogical and
historical research.
