Frank Carlson Library
The Frank Carlson Library is the public
library serving Concordia. When the library
was constructed in 1976, a room was
included which was dedicated to Concordia’s
most illustrious citizen, Senator Frank
Carlson. Among the items on display in the
Carlson Room are a check signed by fellow
Kansan Dwight D. Eisenhower in the playful
settlement of a bet, a mug from the U.S.
Senate, special inaugural license plates,
several political cartoons, campaign
literature, and dozens of photographs.
Frank Carlson is the only Kansan in state
history to have served in the U.S. House of
Representatives, in the U.S. Senate, and as
governor of Kansas. He was a co-founder of
the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, a tradition
which continues to this day.
