Christmas Lighting Committee
In 1999 a handful of people began to discuss Christmas Lighting for
Concordia. It was decided to challenge the community to buy 5' snowflakes
on the lightpoles in the downtown district. The community responded, and in
fact, 24 snowflakes graced the lightpoles downtown during the holidays that
same year! The next goal the committee set was to place 81 snowflakes,
one on each ligthpole, along US Hwy. 81 through Concordia. Incredibly that
goal was also met.

The Christmas Lighting Committee sought donations through various
projects...mailings, bratwurst sales at Fall Fest, picture postcards...and the
committee pushed on...

During the holidays, Concordia now has about 180 snowflakes on display
downtown, along Hwy. 81, on College Drive and going east on 6th Street
Trafficway, to the edge of town.

Donations are accepted by the Christmas Lighting Committee, or support
the cause by purchasing a package of postcards for $5.

In addition to raising funds for the holiday decorations, the committee
members prepare the Snowflakes prior to display, replacing burned out
bulbs.

Members of the Christmas Lighting Committee include Steve Champlin, Sue Ebbesson,
Margo Hosie, Roberta Lowrey, Roy Reif, Susan Retter, Mary Jane Tieking, Suzy Tuggle,
Steve Wetter,  Monte Wentz and Steve Womack.
